A fund for Jennie - auction
Friday, August 26, 2011 at 2:42PM
Hi everyone. As you know, a wonderful member of our food blogging community, Jennie Perillo, lost her beloved husband suddenly on Aug. 7.
I'm a wife, and a mom, just like Jennie. But I can't pretend to know how she's feeling now, or how her precious children are coping. All I can do -- all any of us can do -- is reach out and try to do whatever we can to help Jennie and her family.
As you probably know, the food blogging community has banded together -- thanks to Bloggers without Borders, a charity founded by Maggie of ThreeManyCooks, Erica of Ivory Hut and Aimee Wimbush-Bourque of Simple Bites -- to raise money for Jennie and her family, to try to help them through this difficult time, and the months ahead.
Here's my humble contribution: I'm auctioning off a package that contains a Cuisinart Smart Stick Hand Blender, like this:
And a copy of my cookbook:
Won't you please make a bid? All proceeds will go to #afundforjennie (shipping costs are on me). Simply place your bid in the comments section. Auction will end on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 11:59PM EST. (The winner will make their payment to the Bloggers Without Borders PayPal account.)
All we can do is try to help -- and grab our loved ones, friends and family, hug them tight and tell them how much we love them.
Thanks.

You guys are the best :)
So, was this fundraiser to help Jennie move into a fancier apartment, take monthly vacations, wear gorgeous Varda boots (retailing for over $500) and enjoy dinners at the Gramercy Tavern? Because it seemed to me and many others that she was in great financial distress and her situation was dire. You all need to address this, because it kind of seems like a scam. I'm sorry she lost her husband, but there are people in the world who have also lost a spouse, and were in a lot worse shape than Mrs. Perillo. People who really lost their homes and security, but they didn't have a blogging community to grift for money from their readers. This whole thing makes your community look terrible. You should either address this, or she needs to give that money back.
...explain?
